No. 81 Team Rallies to a 27th Place Finish

Despite suffering heavy damage in a crash, the MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 team rallied with driver Sean Murphy to a 27th place finish in the U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.

The lap 11 crash put the team in 42nd place and in the garage.  The team worked feverishly to repair the car, and some 20 laps later, they returned to the track.

“I guess it’s just an aspect of racing.  Unfortunately, somebody got into us and spun us.  It was disappointing, but we never gave up.  We kept going at it all day,” said Murphey, who made his first Nationwide career start last weekend at Iowa.

Upon returning to the track 20 laps down, the team continued to work hard and went into points mode.  As others crashed or fell off the pace, the No. 81 team capitalized on their misfortunes.   The team managed to stay out of trouble for the remainder of the race and salvaged a 27th place finish from an otherwise challenging day.

The No. 81 MacDonald Motorsports team will be packing its bags for N.Y. this week, and driver Sean Murphy will return for the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International, Saturday, August 8 at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN 2.
